BDF Live!

BDF continued to practice throughout the summer, working on new material and polishing up older songs. Soon, they decided that they were ready to perform live. BDF was ready for the world, but was the world ready for BDF? The guys decided that they should probably put together a demo CD with some better quality recordings. This CD could be copied and passed out to bars where they could potentially play. After deciding what songs to include, and tossing around ideas for a name, in October 2001, they completed the 8-song demo known as "Just A Taste..." Richie Rheingold completed all the artwork needed for the labels and the jewel case, and about 15 copies of the CD were made.

With the demo completed, the next step would be to convince some bars to let BDF play. One night, Steve called the Lowdown in Mount Vernon, and asked the guy who answered the phone what it would take to get BDF a gig there. After speaking with Steve for about 10 minutes, asking questions like what kind of music the band played and where the members were from, he agreed to give BDF a shot! Without even hearing a single note, he gave them a Friday night date in November. The Lowdown guy then gave him the details, and said two other bands would be playing along with BDF. Steve passed along the news to the rest of the band as soon as possible, and they were all psyched! BDF had its first live gig!

As the shock wore off, the hype began. Phonecalls were made, announcements were posted, emails were sent. BDF would be playing with two other local bands, and the order in which the bands played would be determined that night. So BDF told their fans to get there early, in case BDF was the first band to play. When the guys showed up at the Lowdown, it turned out they would be the only band that night! They had the whole stage to themselves!

As the crowd began to fill in the place, what will always be remembered as a historic event in the archives of Rock n Roll history began to unfold. BDF launched into a full set of 14 songs (all the songs they knew at the time), and rocked the house! After taking a short 30 minute break to mingle with the crowd and throw down some cold brews, the band returned to the stage for a full second set! Of course, since they only had one set prepared, the songs were pretty much the same exact ones, played in the same exact order, but they didn't make nearly as many fuck ups the second time around!

The overall reaction of the crowd was incredible. Some of those in attendance expressed their utter and total surprise that the songs actually sounded like real songs and not just a bunch of noise. Others enjoyed singing along to some of the choruses the second time around. And, most importantly, everybody there had a good time. This may have been BDF's first ever live show, but from the crowd response and fun it had been for both the band and the fans, it definitely wouldn't be the last.
