After the Bayonne session, the band almost had enough material to finish their second album, but not quite. BDF was in the habit of putting out complete 60-minute long albums, and they still needed about 15-20 minutes more of material. They held another session at Rich's apartment, during which one of BDF's most experimental and daring songs was recorded. Inspired by Dar's neighbor in Bayonne, "Sounds Like Thunder" was a barrage of noise and feedback, pushing the band's amps and instruments to their limits. Another recording session was held a few days later, this time in Dar's dorm room at Manhattan College. Although the room was small by BDF's usual recording studio standards, it was enough to get the album completed. The songs "Purgatory", "Baywatch", and "Crack A Beer" were recorded in the dorm room in a short amount of time, and the band headed to the nearby bars to celebrate. A few days later, the songs were put together, the track order was moved around to determine how the songs would appear on the album (mostly to avoid the same riff being heard in back-to-back songs), and the album cover and jacket was designed and completed. The second album was finished. Given the title "Sobriety Sux!", this album contained a more refined and mature sound than "We're Outta Beer!" and explored some more experimental types of music for the band. BDF had completed two full-length albums in two years. And there was more material already written which hadn't made it onto the second album. It appeared as if the albums would continue to flow from the band at a regular pace. However, it would be BDF's last album for at least 7 years. The next few months would be rough on the group, and there was no telling where things would go from here. |
