The First Recording Session

Sitting in Dar's backyard on a beautiful summer day with two cold cases of beer and the amps plugged in, it was an unforgettable scene. Until they started playing. The first songs they played around with were cover tunes. Songs like "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog and "Angry Chair" by Alice In Chains were massacred by Steve and Dar as they got warmed up. And they checked the recording equipment (a boombox with a record button and a microphone hole the size of a pin) with these few songs as well. Those rare tapes are said to be worth thousands of dollars these days to the fanatical BDF admirer. They listened to the tapes, and the quality seemed satisfactory. Time to move on to some of their own material.

By this time, both Dar and Steve had several brews in them, and they had called Rich to invite him over to the unexpected jam session. They polished off a few more beers and discussed some of their potential songs as they waited for Rich to arrive. When he did, he quickly grabbed a beer and joined the session. Looking around, the three tried to figure out if there was anything available to bang on which might give something of a drum-like sound to the music. After deciding not to use the shell of the turtle sandbox, they decided to go drumless. With little preparation and no rehearsal, the record button on the boombox was pressed, and the trio ripped into a smoking rendition of what would become their title track "We're Outta Beer!" Within minutes, the first song was done. The band played back the tape, and were quite pleased with what they heard. A few more songs were to follow, including "Little Drummer Boy", the band's humorous take on how they needed a drummer and would take anybody they could find, as long as they had a drum set and liked to drink beer. As the afternoon began to fade away, and the beers began to vanish, they wrapped up the recording session for the day. The first tracks were on tape, and there was more to come. They turned off the amps and put away the instruments, and went out to celebrate.
