Chapter 4 - The RAG Drinking Game & Marketing The Band

Although the band had decided to not enter the Battle of the Bands, they would continue to play together and drink together. RAG made several visits back to the rehearsal room to jam or to polish up some of the previously recorded songs. More and more, being a member or a fan of RAG was becoming less about the band itself, but more a way of life.

The band managed to get their hands on a copy of "The Anarchist Cookbook", an interesting book with an assortment of useful information. From descriptions of weapons and how to kill a man, to listings of obscure things to smoke to get a buzz (like banana peels and hydrangia leaves), this book made for good reading, and gave them more background on Anarchy.

Soon, word of the band and their exploits began to spread throughout the campus. Fans would begin drawing the RAG symbol - an Anarchy "A" with an "R" and "G" scribbled around it - on their desks. This trend seemed to catch on as a form of promoting the band, or Anarchy, or goat fucking, or rabies, or all of the above! After awhile, it would be hard to find a desk that did NOT have a RAG symbol drawn on it. These fanatics would even go so far as to look for a desk in the classroom which did NOT have the symbol on it, so they could sit at that desk and during the lecture, leave the mark on the untouched desk as well. Even the band was a bit surprised by how widespread their popularity had grown. Rumor has it that even to this day, the RAG symbol can be seen on desks in those classrooms. And although the students of today might not be familiar with the music, the message they were trying to send is still crystal clear.

One night, a bunch of the guys were sitting around in the dorm drinking beers. Not much was going on that night, and it was pretty dull. At some point, Chris grabbed a deck of cards. He started flipping the cards over, and drinking no matter what card it was. Soon, Rich joined him, and they took turns flipping over cards and sipping their beer. One by one, more people joined in the game, promoting Anarchy by not having any rules except for one- Drink! This was the first incarnation of the RAG Drinking Game. After that night, the game was played on other occasions. Over time, people would make suggestions as the cards came up, as possible things to do for that card. These ranged from things similar to other games, such as a beer wave, to things that were just plain wacky, like making a "Satanic" sound before drinking. Over time, the RAG drinking game developed a complete set of rules for each card in the deck. New guests and visitors were always introduced to the game, and usually got pretty fucking drunk by playing it. The rules and traditions were passed from friend to friend, and soon the infamous drinking game was being played all over campus. The RAG influence was growing, and was getting even bigger than just their music.
