Chapter 5 - The Legacy Continues

By the time freshman year was winding down, the band was going strong. Hundreds of desks had been marked with the RAG symbol, 4 original songs had been recorded, a drinking game had been developed, and recognition was at an all-time high. However, a few unfortunate turns would quickly bring the group crashing down from their spot on top of the music scene.

One afternoon, the band was on their way to their usual practice room in Loyola Hall. As they went to the security desk to retrieve the key to get into the room, they were told that the practice rooms were no longer available to the public. Apparently some students were abusing the usage of these rooms, and they were now off limits. Disappointed and disgruntled, the band cussed at the security officers and gave them the middle finger in true Anarchistic fashion.

Without access to the practice room, the band found themselves again without drums. And there was no way they could go back to the tupperware and rubbermaid sound. With the semester winding down and their drums taken away from them, the band did not record another song. The semester came to a close, and everybody said their goodbyes and went back to their homes for the summer.

Upon returning for sophomore year, the band faced some new challenges. Drew, who had been one of the biggest RAG supporters, had contributed backup vocals on a few songs, and had sketched a multitude of RAG fliers, did not return to school. Jon and Chris moved out of Kostka into the Quad, putting a geographical distance between the band. And the practice room and drum set were all but forgotten. Motivation and inspiration to write new music was low. New responsibilities and distractions had caused the band to lose its focus. And although there were still plenty of desks which could be found with the RAG symbol emblazoned on them, they were no longer being spread like wildfire to the uninfected desks. Even the RAG drinking game was played very rarely.

It looked as though the RAG phenomenon was coming to a gradual close. The summer break had a large effect by slowing down the band's momentum. Now it looked as if it would slow to a complete halt.

The Rabid Anarchist Goatfuckers would never record another song together. Their run to the top of the music scene was dramatic and quick. Their fall was quiet and unnoticed. But they had accomplished a lot in their short time together. They had done some things that other bands could only dream of doing. After all, how many bands can claim to have their own drinking game? The band's influence would be felt in some other bands that the members would join, such as BDF, DSA, and Violent Grey. And the times they played music together would not ever be forgotten.

Although RAG as a musical group came to an end during sophomore year, the band's attitude and influence still had one more trick up its sleeve later on during their college career. And that move would capture the attention of the entire college like nothing they had previously done...
