(Interviewed 07/06/2001)
Question: Hi, Rich, and thanks for taking the time to answer a few
questions. You've been in BDF from the start. How would you describe the overall
experience in your own words? Rich: My overall experience with B.D.F.? Well, it's hazy for one, but i would have to say, well, ummm.., I don't really remember! Good Tunes though! Q: BDF recorded a lot of material in a short amount of time in their early days. Some rumors speculate that each song was recorded on the first take, with very little preparation before it was recorded. Can you comment on that? Rich: Steve, You got a riff? Dope, You got lyrics?, Cool now all we need is a bass line, well O.K. we're fakin the drums tooo! Let's Rock! Hence the magic you hear today. Q: Is it true that BDF has never had an actual real drumset for any of their songs? If so, how did the band generate the drums heard on the albums? Were there any complications or disappointments because you never had real drums? Rich: Nah, no reall disapointment, well untill I heard the R.A.G. song, "annialiation" and I realized that Drums were pretty damn important! So I borrowed(stole) a little drum pad from an Exgirlfriend and it had like no sound no drumsticks and noone to play it. Tee-Balls howeva did his best with the spoons we provided. There is also rumors around that that was the inspiration for Soundgarden's , "Spoonman", but that just could be a rumor. Q: At the end of one of the songs on "We're Outta Beer", I believe you can be heard saying "no turtles". What the fuck does that mean? Is it some secret BDF code language or something? Rich: I think it's drunkeness for " Some one get my beer out of the sandbox" Q: It seems fairly obvious that you have evolved as a vocalist, from
such early tunes as "Drink, Drank, Drunk", to newer songs like
"Latrell Sprewell". Could you attribute your progress to anything in
particular? Rich: Jack Daniels Q: Rumor has it you once wrote a song called "Boob Tube" that didn't make it onto any of the albums. Any chance we'll see it as a future B-side release? Rich: I doubt it, I don't think it ever got recorded, no doubt a conspiracy by the other members of the band to steal my thunder! Maybe I'll do it on a solo project, or maybe not! Q: And last, but not least, what is your fondest memory of the whole
BDF experience? Rich: That is a tough one, maybe it's the time I....or the time Steve
said...... um, no it had to be Dar ,no maybe Rin, who, no It was definitly
Tom or Kolman, or was it his brother? Ah fuck it it had to be the
first time I puked! Thanks go out (and mad props) to Rich for answering all our tough questions and giving us a further glimpse into the whole BDF lifestyle and history! Thanks yo!
